The idea for this show was inspired by Drucilla Perez-Tubens’ mosaic mermaid sculpture, and by Rebecca Collins and her series of mosaic octopus images.

The Mermaid and the Octopus have long held an enchanting place in the imaginations of human beings. They are considered beautiful and frightening, mysterious and odd. Mermaid and Octopus imagery dates back to the ancient Greek and Roman decorative arts and is now on the rise in our present-day popular culture. This exhibition will showcase artwork inspired by these creatures of the deep sea. The opening reception will be styled as a sideshow circus event.
